Hey there, Townshippers
This week, weâre heading uphill â literally. Our Center Stage story takes you to Mont Ham, the mountain that has quietly become a symbol of how our communities connect through nature, heritage, and heart. Youâll also find your weekend lineup packed with local concerts, Christmas markets, creative outings, and one very tempting brewery update.
Whether youâre hiking, gifting, or just soaking in the last golden days before snow, thereâs plenty happening across the Townships. Letâs dive in. đ

Center Stage This Week
Climbing Together: How Mont Ham Became the Eastern Townshipsâ Community Mountain

Rising gently above the forests of Ham-Sud, Mont Ham is more than a scenic peak â itâs a gathering place, a teaching ground, and a symbol of how the Eastern Townships live in balance with their land.
Since being designated a regional park in 2013, Mont Ham (713 m elevation) has been managed by Société de développement du Mont-Ham, a non-profit that blends recreation, conservation, and education. The goal: to make outdoor access inclusive and sustainable for all ages.
Today, the parkâs 18 km of trails attract hikers from across the Townships and beyond, yet the heart of its story lies in local stewardship. âEvery boardwalk plank and trail marker has community hands behind it,â says park coordinator Marie-Claude Lavoie (interview suggested). Local volunteers help with cleanup days, reforestation efforts, and guided nature walks that teach visitors about biodiversity in the Les Sources RCM.
What sets Mont Ham apart is its emphasis on connection. The park collaborates with Waban-Aki First Nations communities on interpretive programming that highlights the siteâs Abenaki heritage â the original name of the mountain, Hne Hame, means âthe other mountain.â Signage, storytelling events, and school visits help reconnect residents and visitors to the areaâs Indigenous roots.
Seasonal events like the âMont-Ham en fĂȘteâ celebration and the winter full-moon hikes bring together locals from Ham-Sud, Saint-Adrien, and Wotton, creating what one visitor called âa microcosm of the Townships â nature, culture, and neighbours, all in one climb.â
With its sweeping views of the Appalachians and its role as both ecological reserve and social anchor, Mont Ham illustrates how community-run parks can thrive without losing their wild heart.
